That's right, we put metal in our touring skis. It's long been thought that building a lightweight ski meant sacrificing downhill performance. The Wayback 96 is here to shatter that stereotype. Built using our T3 construction the Wayback 96 was designed around the idea of incorporating a metal laminate layer into a light weight construction, creating our most versatile touring ski to date. All the edge grip, stability and downhill performance you come to expect from a ski with metal, at an astounding 1325g (177cm). The comfort and ease for multi-day hut tours and the confidence and precision for steep skiing objectives, you can have you cake and eat it too with the Wayback 96.
This ski does not come with bindings. We recommend a pair of bindings
with a brake from 5 up to 10 mm wider than this ski. Please feel free to
contact our customer service if you have a question about binding
compatibility. If you buy skis and bindings together we can mount them for you free of charge.

DETAILS
Gender : Men's
Type: Touring
Riding Style: Freeride - Touring
Ski Terrain : Alpine Touring - Also known as backcountry skis, alpine touring (AT) skis are designed for going uphill as well as downhill. These skis are typically light for their width and many feature fittings that accept climbing skins. AT skis vary in width and weight, with the wider heavier versions usually used for winter/deep snow touring and the skinnier, lighter skis usually used for spring/summer/long distance touring
Powder - These skis are for the deep days. If you like to
find powder stashes at your local resort, go on backcountry missions for
the freshest of fresh or heli ski trips to BC, powder skis are what you
need to stay afloat. Skis in the powder category are wide and most
often have some form of rocker or early rise plus a relatively soft
flex. Many powder skis today are versatile enough to handle mixed
conditions and harder snow.
Rocker Type: Rocker -All Terrain Rocker
- Designed for all ability levels, All-Terrain Rocker adds versatility and ease in all snow conditions. This profile features an elevated tip and tail for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edgehold in firmer conditions.
Construction: Touring Technology - For over 20 years, K2 has been working with guides and athletes to build the best backcountry skis on the market. This year is no different. Our team of guides were tasked with testing and setting the stage for the Touring Series redesign. From North & South America to the Alps and Norway, these skis have seen it all.
This year’s completely re-engineered Wayback line sets a new standard
for backcountry skis; we’ve reduced ski weights significantly without
sacrificing the downhill performance skiers expect from K2’s touring
skis. The new Waybacks aim to inspire you to reach further and seek out
your ‘best run ever’ each and every day.
Core Material: Wood paulownia-tour-ultra-lite
Laminates : Ti SpYne -: First of its kind, Titanal laminate developed specifically for K2 Touring skis that dramatically increases dampening and predictability on lightweight carbon constructions, while enhancing stability and edge grip.
Carbon Overdrive - Top secret construction using carbon fiber to make a ski even more awesome than if it did not have carbon fiber. Radness levels achieved are difficult to quantify. Product of area '62.
