Dark Matter Damping
Dark Matter Damping is one of the largest innovations K2 brings to the new skis. "Dark Matter" is a construction in which a polymer damper is strategically placed between two layers of high-strength carbon along the edges of the ski. The Dark Matter damping reduces vibrations extremely effectively, ensuring optimum edge contact and perfect control, especially in hard and icy snow. And with exactly this edge grip and control, you can ski faster and more aggressively and make your turns even more precise. Dark Matter Damping is the secret to eliminating high-frequency vibrations and creating top levels of stability and edge grip you can only find on a K2 ski!

Titanal i-Beam
Titanal is an aluminum alloy with titanium, vanadium, and several other alloying elements that give exceptionally high yield strength. It is used extensively in skis (and aircraft, for that matter) due to its high bulk modulus and extremely high yield strength compared to other aluminum alloys. The material has better inherent damping properties than many composites, like carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass. Titanal in skis increases dampness due to the material’s ability to absorb energy. Depending on the shape of the reinforcement, adding Titanal can also improve power transmission throughout the ski, and significantly contribute to both longitudinal and torsional stiffness.

PowerWall technology
The PowerWall technology makes an important contribution to optimum edge grip, and thus also to ski control. The use of a second ABS sidewall, which is laminated and connected to the wood core in the central area of the ski, optimizes the power transmission of the ski many times over. The sidewall extends to the center of the ski, which transfers the skier's force directly and precisely to the edge. This seamless connection of the core and the sidewall, provides a full edge grip without too much effort.

Aspen wood core
The core of the ski is there to transfer shear between all the contributing sheets and by experimenting with the proportions, K2 can temper with the balance between stiffness, dampness and flexibility and add or reduce weight. Using different types of wood and finding the right balance between them can produce great results. Different types of wood have different properties to bring to the table. K2 is able to use the properties of several types of wood in its cores, and can more accurately shape a ski's characteristics. This is done to give different strengths, flexes, and weights to different areas of a ski. In this case, Aspen has been chosen to ensure consistency, giving riders the advantage of a proven flex, durability and snap. Choosing the right type of wood and using it on the right area of the core, can make a great ski stand out!
